As the charging network in Scotland continues to grow, there are challenges associated with powering this new infrastructure. Our engagement activity in 2021-22 highlighted that this challenge is felt by many stakeholders involved in public charging infrastructure projects.

This section signposts to DNO sources of support, and advises on how the type and number of chargepoints specified will impact the energy requirements and cost implications of a project. It also highlights the importance of communications, connectivity and of considering land ownership. Beyond this, it considers potential timeframes for a public installation, futureproofing options and technological solutions to reduce the power capacity required such as load management and integration with renewables. It closes with a couple of exemplar case studies.
